3rd Quarter - Week 2 and Beginning of Week 3

It’s been a crazy last couple of days. Last week, my sleep schedule looked something like this go to bed at 3am wake up at 8am for about 4 days straight. There were some assignments for classes that I didn’t get done, but luckily my teachers were forgiving this time. I just can’t let it happen again. This week looks like it’s going to be roughly the same way.

I did get a day to sleep in and not think about school work on Friday. I gave my apartment a much needed clean and went to Six Flags with friends! I rode practically every roller coaster there except for The Ninja and The Cyclone.

This week I have so much stuff due: 3 ideas for a publication, 150 logo sketches, 40 packaging designs with 8 of them mocked up, 10 movie poster ideas, and few other little things here and there.

My schedule’s already crazy and I’ve only been to 4 out of my 5 classes. My Type 2 class begins tomorrow, and we’re already 2 weeks behind so who know’s what’s in store for that class. I’m just going to have to start making sure I use my time more efficiently so that I can have some free time every now and then.

Well, I need to get back to work so I’ll ttyl.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” - Marianne Williamson"

Quarter 3, Week 1: Sink or Swim

This past week has been challenging. There was no easing into the design program. I was thrown in without anyone checking to see if I could swim, and right now, even though I’ve managed to stay afloat, I still feel like I’m flailing a bit. The design program is going to be a challenge, and it both excites me and scares me, but I can’t let my fear hinder me. I have to learn to channel it into something productive. I just have to remember that I’m the only thing stopping me, and I don’t need to try to be like other great designers that I see and know. I just have to be me.

Well, I need to get back to work, but I’ll let you know how everything goes.

Love these! So simple.

Third Quarter Classes begin tomorrow!

So as you all know I switched over to Design this quarter and my first class is tomorrow. A small part of me wants some slack from my teachers since I just switched, but a majority of me is like, “Fuck that!” I didn’t come to this school to be babied. I want to be pushed. I’m ready to be pushed to my limits and beyond. I’m excited about my schedule for this quarter, too. I have some great classes with some good teachers. There’s only 1 Art Direction class I wish I had this quarter, and it’s learning Illustrator. But oh well, I can continue to teach myself like I’ve been doing.

So my classes this quarter include: Publications and Editorial Design, Intro to Design, Type 2, a packaging class, and Semiotics. My Pubs class is at 9am on Mondays. Not too crazy about that mainly because of traffic, but I’ll survive. Tomorrow I have my Intro to Design class, which I’m excited about mostly because I was looking forward to having this teacher. Well, I will try to do a better job of keeping you all updated this quarter.

There are a few more projects that I worked on that are harder to show because they’re books, but I might be able to pull a few pages from each to show, but that will have to come later on today. There’s also my off the grid assignment for type 1 that I can’t show because I’ll have to photograph it, but it’s not currently in my possession. I had to leave it at school, but when I get, I’ll show it to you.

This is a video that me and 2 other classmates, Jordan (Photographer/Videographer) and Mark (Copywriter) created for our video advertising class. The idea for this video stemmed from mine and Mark’s MoonPie campaign from another class. The idea behind the entire campaign is shutting people up with MoonPies.

[Flash 10 is required to watch video]

This is a flash animation that I created to go along with our print campaign for MoonPies.

This is a print campaign that Mark and I worked on for our Concepting class this quarter. The idea behind the campaign was shutting people up with MoonPies.

When I showed this at critique, they didn’t think this idea worked as well in print as it did in video, which is coming up.

This is a before and after of a photo I took that I turned into night. This assignment was from my Photoshop class, and it took me several hours to finish this because I did a lot. I added all of the lights to the windows, changed the sky, etc. The assignment was to change the sky, and since I found a night sky, I had to change the scene to night. And you can’t have a night photo of NYC without lights.
